Our experienced team of doctors and nurses are skilled in the diagnosing and treatment of critical medical cases. We offer animal surgery services with state-of-the-art monitoring equipment, diagnostic imaging with high quality x-ray equipment, oxygen therapy for your pet’s respiratory emergencies, endoscopy procedures, canine blood transfusion, and many more emergency animal services. Gulf Coast Animal Emergency Hospital is available nights and weekends for your emergency pet care and emergency animal surgery needs.

Endoscopy

Endoscopy

At the emergency hospital, we offer endoscopy as an alternative to surgery for foreign body retrieval. Depending on the object ingested and location inside the gastrointestinal tract, endoscopy may be a preferred alternative to surgery for your pet. The procedure requires general anesthesia so that a fiber-optic camera can be guided down the esophagus and into the stomach. Small forceps are inserted through the endoscope to grab objects and remove them without the need for surgery.

Diagnostic Imaging

Diagnostic Imaging

We utilize real-time, high-quality, digital X-ray equipment to provide a comprehensive evaluation of your pet. When a diagnosis may be unclear, we have access to board-certified radiologists for further consultation.

Our emergency doctors are also trained to perform emergency ultrasounds, known as F.A.S.T. scans. These types of ultrasound assessments are routinely performed when a pet is in critical condition or has sustained trauma. Ultrasound may be the preferred imaging test to diagnose certain conditions and can be life-saving when a pet is not stable enough for X-rays. Our doctors can also perform ultrasound-guided centesis (aspiration) of body cavities to help make a diagnosis and provide stabilization for specific conditions.

Patient Monitoring

Patient Monitoring

Your pet’s status will be immediately evaluated when you arrive at the emergency hospital by our triage technician. In addition to basic vital signs (temperature, pulse, respiratory rate), we may utilize other monitoring tests to assess your pet’s condition as well, including electrocardiogram (ECG/EKG), blood pressure, pulse oximetry, and end-tidal CO2.

Our hospital takes great pride in our ability to monitor your pet’s condition closely during their stay. Once admitted to the hospital, your pet will have an on-going monitoring plan tailored to their specific needs.

Emergency Surgery

Emergency Surgery

In the event that your pet requires emergency surgery, we have a fully-equipped surgical suite and state-of-the-art monitoring equipment in the emergency hospital. Once your pet has been thoroughly examined by the emergency doctor and surgeon, your pet will undergo surgery promptly. Prior to surgery, you will have the opportunity to meet with the surgeon and discuss the surgical procedure, recovery, and expected prognosis.
